To satisfy your curiousity

February 27, 2008

I have had quite a few requests to share which images are going in the book. If you don’t know what I am talking about, I posted a couple weeks ago about my images being published in The Big Book of Babies

I will be giving updates along the way but hate to make any of you curious folk wait too long!

So without further ado:

Public service announcement

February 26, 2008

I interrupt your regularly scheduled blogging to bring you the following important announcement:

There are only:

87 days

2098 hours

125928 minutes

until bikini season (which I have deemed to officially start on Memorial Day weekend). SCARY thought, I know!

You may think you’re cold right now, but warm weather is right around the corner! It dawned on me yesterday because it seems that each warm or sunny day we have, my emails and phone inquiries pick up with those planning ahead (not even too far ahead now!) to spring photo sessions.

Something new

February 20, 2008

Ok so it’s true, I fully confess my guilt. I have completely neglected my poor website and not taken the time to update any of my galleries for a good 9 months or so now. Since it is my virtual portfolio, it would make sense to do so, but honestly keeping up with the blog and everything else… well, I let it fall to the wayside.Admittedly, the guilt finally built up to the point where I could let it go on no longer!

You see, I hear from many photographers, both established and aspiring, as well as people who simply love photography and these people promise to check back for updates. I can only imagine what they think when they check back 6 months later to see no new images! Well, sure, I am certain some probably follow the blog, but still- it’s not really the same.

Here are a few excerpts from emails I have received:

As a student photographer, I’ve made it my goal to find a well established photographer to gain influence from. I believe you are that photographer. I absolutely fell in love with your “Beginning” collection. I work for Picture People and babies are the hardest part of my job. You’ve sparked a few ideas in me and I just wanted to say “thank you!” I’ll continue to look at your work as you post new pictures. Thank you for being an inspiration. -Danielle

I absolutely adore your work! Your eye for capturing children is very natural. I am inspired and thought to drop you a line to say hello. -Lora

As an aspiring portrait photographer, I just wanted to tell you that I think your work is gorgeous… your work is moving and inspiring and I thought I would let you know!Keep up the good work! -Heather

I’m a photographer in California. I’ve shot families and weddings here and there for a few years. Anyhow, searching around the internet and saw your site, and had to tell you that your pictures are sooooooooooooo beautiful! I’m so inspired by your work and your message about life flying by with these little ones! Really lovely photography – can’t wait to see other pictures you upload to your site! Anyhow, wishing you continued success! -Karen

I have to say, it is really nice to hear the compliments and though I have thanked these people for their kind words, I do thank them again! It’s nice to know people are watching! So, for them, my website now has many, many new images! Cozy up and grab a cup of something warm and tempting (it’s snowing here!) and enjoy!

Exciting things…

February 9, 2008

At the end of 2007, I alluded to the fact that there would be some exciting things happening in 2008. Well, that time has come! I am so thrilled and can finally share some big news. You know how it is when you know something really awesome is happening, but you really can’t say anything because you need to wait for every piece to fall into place first, right? Well, that has been me for the last year.

Last winter, I was contacted by a photo editor working for J.C. Suares. JC Suares designs books, magazines, and newspapers, working with clients including Inc. magazine, Fast Company, Variety, and Publishers Weekly. To date, he has edited and designed The Big Book of Dogs, The Big Book of Cats, and The Big Book of Horses, to name a few. He was working on his newest book, The Big Book of Babies, and had tasked his photo editor with gathering photographs of babies to present to the publishers in New York. Not satisfied with the leads given to her, she began searching the web where she stumbled upon the Barefoot Photography website. She contacted me to see if I might be interested in having some images published in a coffee table book. After a long process, 35 of my images were chosen for publication in The Big Book of Babies to include 14 full page spreads. The book is a 384-page collection of more than 230 black and white photographs which capture the wonder and joy of babies’ first years. It is due to be released by Random House on March 18, 2008 and will be available in all major bookstores as well as with online retailers.

I’m not sure if the cover has been finalized yet as I’ve seen different versions, but you may recognize the little guy on the cover here from my “muscle man” post in November of 2006. They actually LOVED him and his image made its way to NYC by special request. I am so thrilled to see my work published and quite honored. It’s been such a hard secret to keep! I am sure these babies are going to enjoy seeing themselves, as babies, in a book when they get older. I just think it’s going to be such a wonderful keepsake!

I’ll be notifying families whose babies will be gracing the pages of the book soon! I also plan to post some updates along the way. Stay tuned!

Introducing the new blog!

February 8, 2008

Well, not a “new” blog in the truest sense of the word, but I have had my blog transferred to my own site finally! I will likely keep the old typepad blog up for a period of time to allow those who have bookmarked me or subscribed to transfer over. I know I have quite a few people who link to me so with any luck, they will see this and be able to update their links. Since quite a few of those linking to me are other photographers, I will share how the new blog came to be.

Oh you might think I have the technical know-how and html savvy to do this myself. I suppose I could keep you thinking that too? But then that wouldn’t really be giving credit where credit is due now, would it? A wonderful photographer friend of mine (who possesses that previously mentioned technical know-how and html savviness ) helps create blogs for Professional Photographers, like myself, who aren’t knowledgeable in CSS and html customizations or just don’t have the time to do it on their own. She is a joy to work with and did an amazing job for me! THANK YOU Theresa Stanton. If you are looking to update your own blog, you can find Theresa’s services, aptly named “Blogs for Photogs” by clicking here: Blogs for Photogs So I do hope you’ll update your bookmarks, readers and subscriptions. This blog is here to stay!
