As I wrapped up orders for the year and found myself winding down on my shooting schedule, I was happy to have a couple of wonderful clients to help me end my year on a high note!

They are patiently waiting for their proofs until after I resume a regular schedule, but I wanted to give them a little something to enjoy in the meantime.

These identical twin girls were so very sweet and really could not have been any more cooperative for us! I admittedly had trouble telling them apart in person, but I am finding as I look at the images I can tell who is who. I seem to photograph a good many fraternal twins, but these are my first identical twins. Aren’t they gorgeous?

And this is a miracle. It is hard enough to get one sleeping and comfortably positioned, but to have such luck as to get both to sleep in dad’s arms- amazing. I think I may have to order myself this one big as a sample!

There were so many more from their session, but I am forcing myself to set aside work since I am technically “off” right now. And not only that, but I am also STILL not done with my shopping, true to form. But then I predicted that a couple months ago!

And this little guy stole my heart! I am just in love with his perfect hair and those big brown eyes! I know mom is going to be pleased when she sees her entire session, but in the meantime, just a couple…

Yeah, it’s easy to see now why I was so taken with him, right?

Thank you again to all of my wonderful 2007 clients! I look forward to seeing everyone again in 2008!

I wanted to thank everyone for making 2007 a wonderful year! I truly enjoyed all of the wonderful people I was so fortunate to meet and also those I was able to see once again. I look forward to seeing you when I re-open next year!

I will be off until January 2, 2008. I have, literally, only a couple remaining session dates for January and inquiries will be answered on a first come, first served basis.

I hope everyone has a safe, healthy and happy holiday season! Hug your children and enjoy your families!

One of my favorite ages to photograph babies is between six months/sitting and ten months/pre-walking. So round and chubby, it seems this age is full of personality and fun!

I had seen this family about two and a half years back when their daughter was at this stage, so it was especially wonderful to get to go back again. Not only did I get to see how she has grown (into quite the young lady I would say!), but I got to meet her baby brother who is currently 8 1/2 months old. They’ve moved into the DC area since I saw them last in Crofton, but I was happy to make the trek out there (in the snow!) for the treat of seeing all of them again.

Here is a sneak peek of just a few from their session…

Look at these big baby blues!

Thanks again for having me back! I hope you are enjoying your holidays and I’ll be in touch soon with the rest of your proofs!

Will work for food? noooo…

But I am willing to be commissioned for travel if asked!
Please inquire if you live outside of the Annapolis area and would like to bring me to your area for a session!

I spent last weekend in sunny Southwest Florida- the Fort Myers/ Naples area to be specific. I am still in a bit of shock after sipping rumrunners at a beach cafe in my camisole, skirt and flip-flops as I watched the children frolick in the ocean. Could it really be December?

Well, yes, it could be! As quickly as I adjusted to the warm (OK, HOT!!) temperatures, I was snapped back into reality with the 3 or so inches of snow that landed outside overnight. The snow, coupled with my son’s week-long-still-not-healthy-yet bout with bronchitis (aka the child who has been home sick from school ALL week), has me convinced that it is, indeed, winter.

Sessions here have of course moved indoors for the most part, except for those who don’t mind bundling up a bit. Envision it: colorful hats and scarfs in the crisp, clean air. Or alternatively, children snuggled up on the bed, or playing in their rooms. I do enjoy my winter sessions too, so don’t hesitate to call if you are looking for a session in January or February!

But, back to the warm weather in Florida. I went down to do a family session with a wonderful family. We did both a family session and a mother/daughter session while I was there. The 3 yo took a bit to warm up to me, but by the end, we got along just fine.

Here are just a few of my favorites from my FL sessions:

The girls are back! I so enjoy seeing them each year. This year, they are truly turning into little girls, much less baby. It makes me so happy to see them, but then it is also somewhat bittersweet to see how quickly the time flies by!

I’ve been photographing these beautiful twin girls since they were six month old infants. We’ve done the in home session, progressing to a session down at beautiful Bethany Beach and this time, we did a little fall session. But wherever we go, I’m happy to be a part of documenting their growth!

Oh how I love newborns! And this brand new baby girl is no exception!

This little one, however, was exceptionally easy and content for her session with me. She wanted to curl up even when we laid her flat on the bed. What a treat! Her mom and dad definitely have extra to be thankful for this year!

Unfortunately, their mini-blind broke in the process of letting some gorgeous natural light into the room (Hey, I never said there weren’t inherent risks of a Barefoot Photography session. I will do whatever necessary, almost anything, to create gorgeous portraits! ) I know dad was making a trip out for a new one after I left and I hope he agrees that it was worth it!

Here’s a sneak peek for them until their gallery is ready. We got so many gorgeous shots and I can’t wait to show them!

Here’s a little guy who traveled up from Northern Virginia to see me. He was such fun to play with and really did a great job. We wandered around downtown Annapolis, stumbling upon many treasures. Mom found me on babycenter where she read the article I was interviewed for and decided to give me a call. And I am so glad she did! I bet she will be too when she sees her full gallery!

Hands down a total and complete treat!

I’ve been photographing this little man since he was in his mama’s belly. We met up on Halloween for a session in the park and he just totally melted my heart. His personality is bursting at the seams now and, well, look at him… he’s simply adorable! At 7 months old now, you may recall my saying this is my other favorite age! So much fun!

Coordinating for the perfect family portrait

“What should we wear?”
“Do you have any suggestions on clothing?”

This question, or a variation therof, is the most frequently asked question I hear. And I am glad they ask! Your portraits are important to you and an investment you make to cherish for a lifetime. They will reflect not only what you look like today, but also the era, the generation, and your family’s unique personality.

Traditionally, we’ve all heard to keep it really simple even to the point of not incorporating color. Everyone has seen the shots of the family dressed in white shirts and either khakis or denim. We’ve heard that in doing so, we won’t “date” a portrait. But isn’t that what we want to do? Don’t you want to date your portrait and remember this time after it’s passed?

Lately, I have found that family portraits take on a much more interesting, and individualized, look when the families strive to coordinate rather than match. I’ve also been strongly suggesting the use of color in portraits as I find the end result much more eye-catching. Make no mistake, it is a challenge to coordinate a group, but with a little persistance and planning, the results will be well worth the extra effort!

See what you think…

This family used blues, browns with a splash of fushia for their family. They are coordinated, but no one matches anyone else. I believe it creates depth and separation between the family members, while still weaving them together to create a cohesive look.

Img_1041_2

And I helped this family finish pulling their look together when I arrived for their session. I don’t ever mind doing that. I think often a fresh pair of eyes is a huge help! We used the son’s plaid shirt to tie everyone else’s colors together. I think they look fantastic!

One last note on clothing before I move on to show just a few more images from these two sessions…

Don’t under estimate the importance of foundation garments, from fun and fashionable tights for girls to supportive (and perhaps lifting?) pieces for Mom. My goal is to catch the moment as it happens; your goal is to look stunning in your portraits. This is especially important if your session involves a child that will need to be carried, picked up, or chased down the street. To ensure you are happy with all angles captured, wear clothing that will allow you to keep covered that which you would like to remain covered.

I’m always available to consult prior to the session, or to sort through clothing at the start of a session. Just please put thought into it prior to session day. It’s worth the effort!

Now, for some fun. Just a few from these wonderful sessions:

And because I was so busy when I got her gallery ready… I’ll take a moment now to share here a few of another recent baby girl I had the pleasure to meet. All these babies- I love it!
